"Can training promote employee organizational commitment?
The effect of employability and expectation value"
Authors Ling Ling, Tao Qing, and Peng Shen discuss training and development and its relationship with organizational commitment, employability, and expectation value. The article stresses the importance of training and development, as well as retention for organizations wanting to increase productivity and relationships. Due to globalization, more options are available to attract employees, challenging companies to retain workers who are committed to the organization. The Pro Quest article authors state "with the process of economic globalization, the flexibility of the organizational structure tends to be enhanced, challenging the stability of employment relationship" (Ling, Qing, & Shen, 2014). Due to a positive correlation found concerning training and organizational commitment, it is suggested businesses train their employees. The article expresses, "To meet this instability, employees turn from the pursuit of lifetime employment to the pursuit of lifelong employabilty" (Ling, Qing, & Shen, 2014). In other words, employee satisfaction is derived from the organization's ability to offer incentives that provide knowledge and employabilty skills, such as training. The expectiation value for the training is high, but, in turn provides organizational commitment to the organization.
- This article is a scholarly source and is a reliable source. The article presented a study done in China but training in America is used introducing the context of training done in American business. The paper shows the direct effect training has on organizational commitment, leading to it's effect on employability, and the effect expectation value has concerning training.
- This source proves that training workers is an important issue for organizations because training effects an employee's organizational commitment. The article helps shape my argument by correlating commitment with training and I can use this to describe what employees want from businesses today.
